In the 1920s, Orange, Texas, high society enjoyed gathering to play Mahjong, and the Stark family was no exception. Miriam Stark likely hosted lively Mahjong games with friends in The W.H. Stark House’s Sitting Room.
More than a century later, Mahjong is still bringing people together in our community and it's everyone's turn to join the fun. Enjoy Open Mahjong Play in the Carriage House for one evening only!
This event is presented in partnership with Southeast Texas Mahjong and open to Mahjong players ready to practice their skills. Beginner Mahjong instructions will not be provided.

Miriam's Mahjong set, crafted from ivory and bamboo, is currently on view in our special exhibition at the Stark Museum of Art. A Touch of Orange highlights colorful decorative arts and artifacts once owned by Miriam and William Stark.
